Breaffy GAA Club has been an integral part of the Gaelic Football scene in the parish of Aglish and the county of Mayo for the past 70 years. The catchment area includes the national school areas of Breaffy, Ballyheane, Errew and Derrywash. The Club has been active in all age categories playing football, hurling, handball, camogie and rounders. Ladies Gaelic Football is very much to the fore in the Club. Participation in junior and senior Scór is an important aspect of cultural life in the Club.

Breaffy GAA Club was formed in 1953. The newly formed team played their first match against Aughagower in the Desmesne, in the field, which is now the club’s old ground. Johnny Golden was the captain, scored the first goal and Bernie King scored the first point. The club won divisional honours in 1955 and 1956 and the minor team won the divisional 9 a side league in 1956.
