An appeal has been lodged with An Bord Pleanala over the refusal of an energy storage facility near Portumna.
It's one of three projects being advanced by Coolpowra Gen Ltd as part of an overall plan to establish a power generator.
The overall project has proved highly controversial, prompting staunch local opposition to the plans and the establishment of a campaign group.
Among the many arguments are that it’s not the right location and allegedly pose risks to the people, environment, and wildlife in the area.
A planning application to Galway County Council for the energy storage facility drew a landslide of objections.
County planners refused permission on several grounds - including the local road network being unsuitable.
They also found the energy storage facility is premature when the power generator and substation are still awaiting a decision.
Now, the developer has lodged an appeal with An Bord Pleanala, with a decision due early next year.
