underage and senior players picking up titles. Galway faced Tipperary in the
All-Ireland Softball Team of 6/4 U14/15 age grade. The Munster men enjoyed an
excellent semi-final victory against Kilkenny but Galway brought a strong team
for the final. The Tribesmen enjoyed the ideal start as Cathal O'Laoire and Sean Stafford started the Galway
challenge with two good games giving them a strong lead. Dara O'Laoire and Padraic
McNeela then went in second and maintained the lead leaving Jack O'Domhnaill and
Brían Walsh to finish the deal with Galway winning by 76 points to 55 and
claiming the All-Ireland title.

Club in Mayo celebrated the club’s 25th anniversary by hosting a
Men’s and Ladies Open with some excellent players taking part. In the Men’s
Open Diarmuid Mulkerrins produced an assured display to win his opening round win
against Rikki O’Gara 15-14 15-6. He then won his next game against Clare’s
Colin Crehan to reach the final. On the other side of the draw, Martin
Mulkerrins defeated Mayo man Patrick Murphy in his semi-final which meant the
Mulkerrins brothers clashed in the final.

It was Martin
Mulkerrins who started strongly as his serve and right hand helped him surge
clear. Despite Diarmuid’s best attempts, it was his older brother Martin who
claimed the opening game 15-5. The second game was a tighter affair but Martin
won the big points as he claimed the second game and the tournament. There was
further Galway success with Niamh Heffernan winning the Plate competition which
capped off a successful tournament for Galway.
