Double European selection in Cross
Country
There is double reward for Galway athletes Thomas
McStay and Damien Landers following their recent superb performances at the
National Cross Country in Dublin last week.
GCH Junior athlete Thomas McStay,who won
National bronze at the National Junior Men’s event, has been picked on the
Irish Junior Men’s team for the upcoming European CrossCountry championships in
Lisbon, Portugal, which will be held December 8th next.
Damien Landers, currently competing for the
Galway County Cross Country team, and also with Ennis Track , has also been
rewarded for his top six National cross country placing withan Irish Senior
team selection.
National Endurance Co-ordinator Matt
Lockett of Galway City Harriers will be in charge of some strong Irish squads
with team medal potential.
Schools International Combined Events
Conor Hoade of Galway City Harriers and Ireland (pictured) added an International gold to his existing ten national medals from 2019, when helping the Irish Schools Combined Events team to a superb first place finish at the International Schools Combined Event in Glasgow's Emirates Arena Saturday last.
Hoade recorded personal bests and club records in 4 of his 5 events , running the 60m Hurdles in 8.57 seconds; throwing the Shot Putt 10.84 metres, leaping a Long Jump of 6.28metres and clocking an 800m in 2:08.28.His 200m time of 23.80 was also exceptional.
The team were in second place behind Scotland and just ahead of England heading into the Long Jump, but huge 6 metre plus performances by three of the Irish boys propelled the team into a lead they were not to relinquish in the final 800m event.
Claregalway 5K
The Claregalway 5k Jingle Bells Fun Run and Walk takes place on Sunday 8th December next at 11am and a Juvenile (U11 and U14) will run over 1K at midday. Race entry is online on Active .com at an Entry Fee of €10.
Number Pickup and Late Registration in Coláiste Bhaile Chláir will be held Sunday 8th between 9.30am and 10.45am. The Race Start and Finish is near Claregalway Community Centre. Refreshments will be held afterwards in Coláiste Bhaile Chláir.
The race is raising funds for juveniles at
Clare River Harriers Athletic Club and Claregalway Handball Club.
