An outstanding legends night was held in the Ard Ri Hotel in Tuam on Saturday night last as members of the All-Ireland winning team of 98' joined Micheal Lyster to remember that great September day when Galway beat Kildare to win their first All-Ireland Senior Football Title since 1966.
The night started with a fitting tribute to Tommy Varden, who passed away in the last few days, which covered not only what Tommy contributed to Galway football and the '98 team, but his enthusiasm for life and his ability through his big personality for getting things done. His vision for a better Tuam and a better community can be seen in his last contribution to our club of a defibrillator. A well deserved standing ovation with sustained, heartfelt applause followed Gerry's words, which then left the scene set for Michael Lyster to take the reins for the night.
Another stalwart of Galway football throughout the years, Tommy Kelly from Loughrea was also fondly remembered by everyone on stage.
Kevin Dwyer was there and he first spoke to the Galway manager from that famous day, John O'Mahoney
Kevin then spoke to Tuam Stars and Galway Legend Ja Fallon
