Galway United are delighted to announce that Stephen Walsh has re-signed for the Senior Men’s team ahead of the 2025 season. The 34-year-old forward has committed to The Tribesmen for 2025 and heads into his twelfth season with United since signing for the club for a fourth time in 2021. The Galway native made 34 appearances in all competitions last season for United, scoring 9 times and making three assists. He finished top scorer for the club in 2024, helping the team to a fifth-placed position in the league.
Fan favourite Walshy started his playing career for his local side, Galway Hibs, before being signed by Galway United for the first time. He then went to Mervue United and played for the club for two years. 2025 will be his twelfth season for the club, having played 333 times, which puts him as the joint second-highest Galway United appearance holder of all time.
Walsh returned to Galway United for three years before having spells with Longford Town and Athlone Town. When returning to United again in 2019, he was awarded the club captaincy. Walsh went back to Hibs in 2020 before returning to United in 2021. Ever since that, he has had a transformational change, going from primarily a left-sided defender into a goal-scoring machine with a record of fifty for the club.
