Galway Kettlebell Club competed at the AIKLF Cup of Ireland at St Joseph’s sports hall in Wexford at the weekend and took 6 medals in total as well as Two Ranks.
Hosted by Wexford Kettlebell Club ,Over 160 athletes competed at the AIKLF (All Ireland Kettlebell Lifting Federation) two day event including adults, juniors, veterans and youths from various clubs around Ireland.
A timed sport, lifters of certain body and Kettlebell weight divisions must lift a Kettlebell overhead for 10 mins with winners calculated by total reps achieved in accordance to their competitors.
Sarah Smith, club director and coach, was the only female professional from the West and one of only 3 female professional competitors from Ireland.
"I didn’t achieve what I personally wanted to at this competition, it’s a tough sport, the 24kg is to unforgiving and requires a large amount of mental and physical energy" "but I’m delighted for my club to have achieved medals, ranks and to have lifted so well"
