Shock and sadness at tragic death of Ardrahan hurling legend

There is widespread shock and sadness in Galway hurling circles today at the news that Ardrahan hurling legend PJ Mahoney has died as a result of a traffic accident near his home at Kiltartan yesterday. PJ was goalkeeper on the Ardrahan team that won senior county championships in 1974 against Castlegar, in 1975 against Carnmore and in 1978 against Ballinderreen after a replay and he was the son of Junior Mahoney, the goalkeeper on the Galway senior team which captured the county’s first All-Ireland title in 1923.
