Oughterard Rugby Football Club (ORFC) are pleased to unveil major new plans for the club’s expansion.
“We are very pleased to announce the purchase of 11 acres of land at the Pier Road in Oughterard” club secretary Niall Walsh told us. “By having these new grounds, we envisage the construction of 2 pitches, one being all weather, and clubhouse facilities which will be open to use by other clubs in the area if they so wish, we ultimately wish to see this development grow into a multi-sport and community facility.”
This new land will enable the club to grow from its existing land on the Clifden road, which has been their home since 2004. As this was leased land the club could not seek grant funding to build shower blocks or a clubhouse. In order to raise funds for the new build the club launched the plans for this years’ major club fundraiser in the Boat Inn on Tuesday 8th May.
The club is running the nationwide show “20k Drop” on June 8th at the Oughterard Community Centre. This show is run on a nationwide basis by Pallas Marketing. There will be €20,000 in cash to be won on the night by 8 lucky contestants who will be picked from the Audience on the night. Club secretary Niall Walsh told us “It is going to be an incredibly exciting night. This is the biggest fundraiser the club has taken on to date and we are hoping for a great turnout”
“The show is timed to start at 8pm and we would encourage people to come early to ensure a seat” said Mr Walsh. “We would also like to say a particular word of thanks to our major sponsors, Carrowntober Foods, DNG Martin O’Connor, Sweeney Oil, Deacy Gilligan Accountants, Keoghs Centra, Radharc Landscaping and Scaffold Direct and to all of those who have taken out advertising at the show, we really couldn’t have done it without them”, he continued.
The show is a great night’s entertainment for all the family. Tickets are expected to sell out in advance of this most entertaining and fun-filled show and people are encouraged to purchase their tickets early.
A total of 8 contestants selected from the audience on the night will each receive €2,500 and will be asked a round of 8 questions. In each round they must place their money on the correct answer or loose the cash! The aim is to reach question 8 and keep the remaining amount. The show is fully computerised with lifelines to help contestants along the way. The questions and four possible answers are displayed on two 8ft x 6ft screens, one at each side of the stage.
Chairperson of the club Mr Aidan O’Flynn said "We are delighted with the response from the local companies who have come on board as major sponsors and advertisers. All sponsor's and advertisers will avail of on screen advertising the night of the show and will be promoted strongly by us on the night and afterwards on Social Media".
Mr O’Flynn went on to say, "The proceeds from this fundraiser will go towards expanding the facilities for the club. These are exciting times for ORFC with our membership growing all the time and now a new home in the pipeline.”.
Tickets for the show are priced at €15 each or €50 for a family ticket and can be purchased from any ORFC coach or committee member. The chairperson paid special tribute to the hard-working committee for all their help and said if any company wished to support the club by advertising at the event to contact Iveta Grigaiteon 0877195683 or any ORFC committee member or by emailing [email protected]
So, make sure to pencil in the 8th June at the Oughterard Community Centre for a great family night out and support the future development of the Oughterard Rugby Football club.
