Galway GAA County Board are meeting this evening to discuss the severe weather warning issued for next Sunday afternoon and its potential impact on local fixtures. The Status Orange Wind alert is from 12 noon to 9 o’clock on Sunday, with the county Senior Hurling semi-finals scheduled for Kenny Park in Athenry at 1.45 pm and 3.30 pm that day. The message from Met Eireann reads:
Storm Ashley will bring very strong and gusty southerly winds coupled with high spring tides. The impacts include coastal flooding, large coastal waves, loose objects displaced, fallen trees, very difficult travelling conditions, dangerous conditions at sea, damage to power lines, power outages, damage to already weakened structures.
Also on Sunday afternoon, the Junior 1 Hurling Final between An Spideal and Ballinasloe is fixed for noon in Carnmore, the Minor A Football Final between Claregalway and Oranmore/Maree is scheduled for 1 pm in Tuam Stadium, the Minor C county football final between An Spidéal and Cortoon Shamrocks is at 3 pm in Annaghdown and there are five games in the Connacht Junior Cup in soccer down for decision. The weather alert is for counties Galway and Mayo, so it should not affect the Connacht Ladies Football Intermediate semi-final between Annaghdown and St Ciarans in Fuerty, Co Roscommon at 1 pm.
