National Senior Boxing title for Darren O’Connor

Darren O’Connor from the Olympic Boxing Club in Galway became national senior champion in the light welterweight division on Saturday in the National Stadium. Darren won on a 4-1 Split decision over Charles McDonagh from St John Bosco in Belfast after the bout was stopped after an accidental clash of heads in the first round.

Elsewhere, Ben McHugh (Monivea BC and the Defence Forces) was defeated by Ben Teeling of the Holy Trinity Club in Drogheda in the final of the Light Middleweight division, while Keelan Mangan from Celtic Eagles was stopped by Josefien Betist of St Brigids Edenderry in the lightweight decider.
