Martin Mulkerrins is the winner of the first Moycullen Open, edging Diarmaid Nash in a thrilling final. The packed gallery witnessed some of the most pulsating handball ever played in the Moycullen court, with incredible displays of ball retrieval and precision shooting to the sheer amazement of the crowd.
In the second National Ranking event of the season, both Men entered tied level on points and showed in the final there is very little between them. Nash won the Golden Gloves tournament a month ago, beating Mulkerrins in the semi-final at the Belfast event. There was a lot at stake for the local star in today's final.
Mulkerrins followed up an impressive SF win over Robbie McCarthy, taking the first game 15-10. Nash responded in game two, winning 15-13 and forcing a tiebreak.
Mulkerrins had leads of 6-1 & 10-5 but was sweating after Nash closed him back to only 9-10. But Mulkerrins composed himself and sealed the win much to the joy of his large home support.
