In a reversal of the John Murphy Cup semi-final clash between these two sides, it was the girls from Glenamaddy Community School that came out victories against St. Peter’s Community School, Passage West in Fairview Rangers AFC on Tuesday afternoon (February 4).

Aisling KENNEDY opened her account seven minutes in, in what proved to be the only goal of the game.

Glenamaddy could have grabbed a second midway through the half when Ali O’Toole sent a blistering strike on target only for it to spin off the woodwork.

Cork’s Meabh Deasy forced a brilliant save from Katie Forde with nine minutes of the half remaining. Sarah O’Mahony with some wonderful link up play in the build-up.

With three minutes remaining before the break, Ruby Maguire scuffed her attempt on goal following a mazy run forward while at the other end Lucy Finlay saw her set-piece smothered by Forde between the posts.

The Connacht Champions with the slight advantage at the interval.

With the match nearing the hour mark, Meabh Daisy spotted Katie Forde off her line and tried to lob the keeper but Forde managed to retreat far enough to grasp the high ball.

St. Peter’s had a fabulous opportunity to draw level four minutes from time when Brooke Manley struck a peach of a shot but again Forde managed magnificently to palm the ball away to safety.

With their backs against the wall for much of the second half, Glenamaddy managed to grind out the all-important win and set them up for the National Cup decider following the Midterm Break.

The other semi-final saw a brace from youngsters Anna Nic Thaidgh and Zoe Ní Laobhais of Gaelcholáiste Reachrann, Domhnach Míde to advance past Rosses Community School, Dungloe in Monaghan United FC the same afternoon.

The FAI Schools Junior ‘B’ Girls National Cup Final will take place on Wednesday, February 26 at Athlone Town AFC (1.0).
