Julie-Ann Russell Named in Irish Squad

Galway United's Julie-Ann Russell was named by Eileen Gleeson in the Republic of Ireland women's squad for their UEFA EURO 2025 Qualifying Round 1 Play-Off double header against Georgia.

Russell, who had a superb season, helped Galway United achieve their highest-ever finish of second place in the SSE Women's Premier Division. The Moycullen-native was handed her senior debut in 2009 and has since made 59 appearances, scoring 4 goals along the way.

Elsewhere in the squad of 26, Ellen Molloy will play for her country for the first time in two years, while Athlone Town goalkeeper Katie Keane has been handed a first senior call-up.

Injuries rule out Megan Campbell (ankle), Jess Ziu (knee), Ruesha Littlejohn (Achilles) and Jamie Finn (knee), while Emily Murphy is unavailable.

The Girls in Green travel to Tbilisi to take on Georgia in the first leg of their play-off semi-final on Friday week, and then welcome them to Tallaght the following Tuesday for the return leg.
