The footballers from Galway and Kildare will meet for the second successive weekend this Sunday when the two sides meet in Croke Park in the Division 2 final of the Allianz Football League. Both sides are already promoted to Division 1 for next season, but Galway are looking to end a near 16 year wait for a victory in Croke Park since their All Ireland final win over Meath in 2001. The intervening years have seen the Tribesmen lose 9 and draw 1 of their 10 league and championship games at GAA headquarters, with their most recent defeat coming against Tipperary in last year's All Ireland quarter final.
Galway's record in Croke Park since 2001:
2002 All Ireland quarter final - Kerry 2-17 Galway 1-12
2003 All Ireland quarter final - Galway 1-11 Donegal 0-14
2004 National League final- Kerry 3-11 Galway 1-16
2005 All Ireland quarter final – Cork 2-14 Galway 2-11
2007 National league semi final- Mayo 2-10 Galway 1-12
2008 All Ireland quarter final – Kerry 1-21 Galway 1-16
2013 All Ireland round 4 qualifier - Cork 1-17 Galway 1-16
