Galway v Clare - A rare football rivalry

Galway footballers take on Clare in Round 5 of the Allianz Football League Div 2 in Tuam Stadium this Sunday (2pm), in what will the sides first meeting since 2017 (pictured above) and only the second since 1995. Galway won that last meeting in Pearse Stadium five years ago 3-13 to 1-11 en route to winning the Division 2 title. The Galway team that day was as follows:

Of that starting team and subs for Galway in 2017, only Johnny Heaney, Paul Conroy, Shane Walsh, Liam Silke and Sean Kelly are still involved in the 2022 squad. Clare have a slightly bigger contingent still involved under manager Colm Collins, with the likes of Eoghan Collins, Jamie Malone, Keelan Sexton, Cian O'Dea, David Tubridy, Eoin Cleary and Cathal O'Connor all playing in the Banner county's 2-13 to 0-10 league defeat at home to Derry last Sunday week.
