Galway Races Summer Festival Ball Initiative Raised €100,000 in Support of Jockey Graham Lee and the Injured Jockeys Fund

The Galway Races Summer Festival Ball that took place in August all in aid of renowned jockey Graham Lee, has achieved remarkable success, raising €92, 172 for Graham plus an additional €11,686 donation from Tote for the Irish Injured Jockeys Fund. The funds raised from the ball will now go directly to the Injured Jockey’s Fund to support Graham in his recovery.

Graham Lee, who has been an integral part of the horse racing community for over two decades, has faced huge challenges following a life changing accident last year at Newcastle Races. In response, the Galway Races Summer Festival Ball was organised to show both the racing industry and the community of Galway’s unwavering support in his recovery.

The prestigious event, held at The Galmont Hotel & Spa on Saturday 3rd August, attracted five-hundred guests from across the racing and local business community all gathered for an evening of solidarity, elegance, entertainment, all there The evening was a spectacular success, featuring a blend of entertainment, fine dining, and heartfelt tributes.

Guests were welcomed by the charming Master of Ceremonies duo, Gráinne Seoige and Brian Gleeson. Attendees were treated to a gourmet dinner and lively musical performances from The Galway Tenors, Irish dancers ‘Cáirde’ and lively band ‘Sean Slattery and the Connections’, creating an atmosphere of celebration and goodwill. The highlight of the evening was the auction led by Colm ODonnellan, which featured exclusive racing memorabilia and unique experiences, donated generously by racing legends and supporters.

Among the distinguished guests were Graham Lee's family, who were warmly embraced by the community. The event also saw the presence of legendary jockey Sir AP McCoy, accomplished riders Patrick Mullins and Rachael Blackmore to name but a few, as well as esteemed trainers Ado McGuiness and Peter Fahey. The evening was further graced by the Mayor of Galway City, Cllr Peter Keane, Suzanne Eade, CEO of Horse Racing Ireland, and Darragh O’Loughlin CEO of the Irish Horse Racing Regulatory Board, reflecting the strong support from the industry's leadership.
