Galway Golf Club's Ronan Mullarney has earned a dream ticket to the 150th Open Championship at St Andrews after finishing in a tie for second at a qualifying tournament in England on Tuesday. Mullarney finished with two birdies in his last four holes to tie for second at Prince’s in Kent on three-under par after rounds of 70 and 71. The 26 year old has fond memories of St Andrews, having won the 2018 R&A Scholars Tournament there as an amateur, before turning professional in December of 2019. With little time to celebrate his success, Ronan will be in action this week on the Europro Tour at the PDC Golf Championship held at Abridge Golf Club in Essex.
Ronan will have plenty of Irish company at the Open Championship, with fellow qualifier David Carey from Dublin joined by high profile figures like Rory McIlroy, Shane Lowry, Padraig Harrington, Seamus Power and Darren Clarke.
