Galway GAA are on the look-out for a new full time Secretary after John Hynes announced last night he was stepping down from his role for personal reasons after 7 years, having become the first full-time secretary in the county at the end of 2011. Hynes contacted Galway GAA club secretaries last night to announce the decision and allow time for nominations for the vacancy to be filled at the upcoming Convention in December. Seamus O'Grady will fulfill the role in a temporary capacity until that Convention.
Meanwhile Galway GAA are also bracing themselves for the release of a potentially explosive audit into the finances of the county board. The report, which was ordered by county treasurer Mike Burke, has already been sent to Croke Park. I write to inform you that I have decided, for personal reasons, not to seek a renewal of my contract of employment with Central Council, as the Full-Time County Secretary of Galway GAA. I have notified the Management Committee of this decision now so as to allow the Galway County Committee ample time to review and strategically analyse its required management structure for the years ahead and for Club's to identify, nominate and elect a new County Secretary at the upcoming Convention in December.
Galway GAA County Committee confirms that County Secretary John Hynes will not seek a renewal of his contract of employment with Central Council as full time County Secretary after serving seven years in the position. John said it was a huge honour for him to be appointed as full time County Secretary in 2012 and was happy to have made some contribution to the advancement of Galway GAA over the past seven years, and he wished all involved in Galway GAA every success, both on and off the field of play in 2019 and the years ahead.
