Galway GAA Board Pay Tribute To Micheal Donoghue

It is now understood that former Galway Hurling
manager Micheál Donoghue has no wish to be reinstated to the position. Donoghue
and his management team had announced their decision to resign last Tuesday week,
after 4 years at the helm.

It is believed that the Management team met on Tuesday night to discuss a
request to return to their position – the result of a meeting between the
players and the Board – but there was no desire to return.

A Hurling Board meeting took place last night and the next step now it appears
is to start the process of finding the next Galway manager.

The County Board have released a statement this afternoon paying tribute to Micheal and his backroom team for their service shown to the Galway Senior Hurling team since taking up their position in December 2015.

The Statement reads….

Galway GAA County Committee wish to record their sincere gratitude and thanks to Team Manager, Micheál Donoghue (Clarinbridge), Team Selectors Francis Forde (Turloughmore), Noel Larkin (Meelick Eyrecourt), Damian Joyce (Cappataggle) and their complete backroom team and support staff for their commitment, dedication and sterling service shown to the Galway Senior Hurling team since taking up their position in December 2015.

During their tenure, over the past four seasons, this management team have been instrumental in bringing the glory days back to Galway hurling; winning a National Hurling League title (2017), Leinster Senior hurling titles (2017 & 2018) and landing the coveted All Ireland Senior Hurling title in 2017, Galway’s first All-Ireland Senior Hurling title since 1988.

Micheál and his team worked tirelessly during this period, bringing a professional and thorough approach to the role, and in doing so they ensured that the Galway Senior Hurling team achieved their ultimate desired goal of winning the Liam McCarthy Cup. We also thank their families for the sacrifices that they have made over these four wonderful years for Galway hurling.

All in Galway GAA wish them every success in the future.
