The finals of the
Corinthians Volkswagen Tag will take place this evening in Corinthian Park with
games getting underway at 6.40pm. This sees the culmination of ten weeks of tag
rugby played by over 1,500 players in what has become the biggest TAG rugby
event in the country.
A very successful Fancy Dress raised close to €4000 for Galway Hospice and a presentation of the cheque will take place in the next couple of weeks once all the money raised has been collected. Galway Corinthians TAG wants to thank all in Galway Hospice for their work and wish them all the very best as Pat O'Connell continues his "Project Minibus" fundraising efforts regarding a bus for the Hospice. It must also be noted that donations can still be made through the Galway Hospice Website. You can donate here
Venue Manager Dave
Grealish has put in immense work throughout the last ten weeks but speaking
this week was quick to point out the work that has gone on behind the scenes.
“This is a team effort and a wonderful example of the spirit that exists in
Galway Corinthians, from those who help with parking to the team upstairs and
especially the referees without whom, we simply could not function. There are
so many who have to be thanked for their service throughout the summer, I want
to mention those who worked very hard upstairs in the organisation of the
games, the guys at the Irish Red Cross who looked after First Aid,
Joe, Brendan, John and everyone who worked behind the bar, Peadar and Lilly
Tonery and their staff for keeping everyone fed and indeed anyone who has
helped in any small way. It is so gratefully appreciated.”
Galway Corinthians would
like to thank all our sponsors throughout the TAG especially out venue sponsor
MathWorks who have been outstanding throughout. A special mention must also go
to Mick Roche who refereed his last TAG game last week. Mick has been an
outstanding servant to the club and his contribution was recognised with a
special presentation last week.
This evening will also
see competition sponsors Volkswagen hold a TAG event at the club and visitors
will get the opportunity to play games and be part of the party atmosphere.
Former Irish International and British and Irish Lion Stephen Ferris will be in
Corinthian Park this evening as a special guest.
Of the games themselves,
several come in for mention but what could be the highlight of the night will
be the Non Beginners Champions Cup Final between Shut The Front Door and The
Dail Bar Chieftains. Over the years games between these teams have been close
and exciting and tonight will be no different. That game will kick off at 8.40
and will bring the curtain down on what has been another amazing year of TAG
Rugby.
All are welcome to come
along to Corinthian Park for one of the highlights of the Summer Rugby TAG
Season and following a small break it will be on to preparations for the new
season of the newly named Energia League.
