Galway Corinthians RFC will celebrate their 90th Birthday with an open party at the Galmont Hotel on New Year's Eve.
As part of the celebrations, the club will also announce news on the night about major developments at their grounds at Cloonacauneen.
Galway Corinthians is the largest club in Connacht and throughout its long and varied history, has always strived for success. Not only on the playing field but off the field through the work of many people who have served the club throughout the years.
These volunteers have produced not just outstanding players and teams, but also a spirit of fair play and sportsmanship that carries these players throughout their formative years.
The flagship senior team is currently flying high in Division 2B of the Energia League. Their ladies, youths, disability rugby and Mini rugby continue to achieve magnificent success both on and off the field. The club are also currently forming a choral group and no doubt the Corinthians choir will bring an added dimension to this innovative club.
However, all of these successes come at a cost as the facilities at Corinthian Park are not now sufficient to deal with the numbers that are coming to the club and to deal with this. To make this feasible, further land has been acquired and the club are planning to further develop the existing pitches at Cloonacauneen with the construction of a 4G all-weather pitch with floodlighting and fencing, a new stand for the Senior Pitch, new dressing rooms, a balcony viewing area as an extension of the clubhouse among other developments.
The club are also planning the installation of solar panels and battery storage and in doing so will become self-sufficient regarding the use of energy at Corinthian Park.
These developments are essential to maintain the growth and success on the field for both men and women in the club but to realise these plans funds in the region of €1,500,000 will have to be raised.
In order to achieve this, the club have undertaken a range of significant fundraising initiatives with the first happening this New Year’s Eve with a wonderful event to celebrate the club’s significant 90th birthday.
This exciting event will be held in the Galmont Hotel and promises to be a memorable evening for all members and friends alike.
A great night is planned to ring in the New Year with Dinner, Dancing till late and some special surprises for all the partygoers.
Chairperson of Galway Corinthians RFC Pearce Flannery explained that support of this event is crucial if the club are to achieve its goals.
“In order for us to achieve our plans we need the backing and support of our members. We are planning some major fundraising initiatives to help us achieve those goals with the first and at the moment, the most pressing being our New Year's Eve dinner and party to celebrate the club's 90th birthday.
“This exciting event promises to be a memorable evening for all members and friends alike and we need the support of our members and friends to make it a success. We are appealing to all of you to take a table if possible and to encourage your family and friends to purchase individual tickets and join us on the night.
“Together we can achieve our goals, strengthen our club and have some fun along the way.”
A limited number of tables are still available for what promises to be the premier event of New Year's Eve.
