Schools International
Galway were well represented on the Irish squad at the Schools International SIAB event held in Belfast last weekend, with Liam Shaw of Athenry , Amy Rose Kelly of South Galway AC and Matthieu Madden of GCH all performing very well at the prestigious event which includes England, Scotland, Wales, and Ireland. The squad management were led by Mary Barrett and Kathryn Casserly, two very experienced athletes in their own right
Liam Shaw closed off a terrific season with a gold medal in the Shot Putt via a massive throw of 16.45 m
Amy Rose Kelly scored on the Girls 4 by 300m Relay team that won Silver, as did Matthieu Madden, a silver winner along with the Boys 4 by 100m Relay team.
National Juvenile Championships
The final weekend of the Juvenile championships took place in blazing sunshine in Tullamore, with Relays taking the spotlight
Craughwell AC were supreme, as they claimed two gold medals and a bronze relay medal
The U15 Boys team were first up, with individual gold winner Conor Penney once again helping his club to medals, and he along with Dean McNally, Joshua Whyte and Donnacha Lawless combined for victory, Craughwellls U14 Boys repeated the feat, winning their category via a squad of Ethan Stace, Kai Watters, Dara Simpson and Tom Malone
Craughwell U14 Girls secured team bronze with the squad comprising Katie Leen, Lauren Morgan, Beth Glynn and anchor leg Rachel Warde who brought them home in a podium spot
GCH were not to be outdone, winning silver relay team medals in the U15 Boys, with the talented U19 Girls squad claiming double silver in the 4 by 100m and 4 by 400m events, and the U18 Girls 4 by 400m team winning bronze.
In the All-Ireland B championships, Max Madden of Craughwell won the U14 Shot Putt, with GCH taking three golds via Finn Lynagh over 600m, Theo Cullinane Vaux in Long jump and Richard McGrath in the Long Jump also.
National Juniors and U23s Championships
Laura Nally of GCH continued her super season with a well-deserved National gold medal in the U23 100m last Sunday. Nally also claimed a bronze over 200m. The talented Galway City Harrier is richly deserving of her National title after many years of dedicated training and racing.
Richard Kamson added more silverware to his trophy cabinet winning U23 Triple Jump silver, while Alix Joyce of Tuam AC excelled as she claimed National U20 Silver over 400m Hurdles
Craughwell AC secured two bronze medals via Kyle Moorhead and Paddy Noonan at Junior level. Moorhead clocked 1.55 for bronze over 800 metres, while Noonan ran a smart 4.07 for 1500m bronze
There were also bronze medals for sprinter Andrew Egan of GCH over 400m at Junior level, as well as a bronze medal for Aine O Farrell in the U23 Ladies 3000m for GCH, in the arduous seven and a half lap race over barriers and water jumps.
Galway County Track and Field Day 3
The final night of the Galway Track and Field Championships saw Stephen Casserly of Castlegar AC take victory in the Tim Colleran Mile race, with Brian O Connor of GCH storming home to win the demanding 10,000 metres event
Streets of Galway 8k
7pm on Saturday August 6th is D Day for the 36th edition of the Galway Clinic sponsored Streets of Galway 8km, organised by Galway City Harriers
The famous 8km returns to its 2019 route around the city, with close on 3,000 athletes expected to participate, Entry is still available on myrunresults.com. Race start is at GTI off Fr Griffin road , with the finish in South Park.
