Galway Track and Field Championships – Juvenile
Last weekend saw two glorious days of sunshine and athletics in Dangan, as the Galway Juvenile Track and Field championships took place at the Regional Sports Centre track. Close to 1,000 athletes took part in both days of superb competition.
Day one saw the U9-11s compete in the Paired competitions, along with the U12 individual events, while the second day featured U13-U19 competitions. U9-11 events included a sprint race, distance event, Long Jump and Turbo Javelin.
All clubs were well represented with multiple medallists across the board for Craughwell, GCH, Tuam, Athenry, Loughrea, East Galway, South Galway, and CRH, and it was encouraging to see a wide spread of medal winners from newer clubs such as Loch Lurgan AC, Connemara, Caltra and Corrib AC
The top 3 pairs and individuals at the U9-11 level in each event qualify for the Connacht Championships to be held June 10th and 17th next, with U12-U19 level athletes able to enter directly
Full credit is due to organizer Clare River Harriers and Loch Lurgan AC, and Galway County Board for a successful event.
