Castlegar AC Cross Country
The Castlegar AC, sponsored Cross Country event, takes place in the Racecourse in Ballybrit on Saturday 18th September next. The event includes the Galway Novice Cross Country championships for Men and Women, over 6k and 4k respectively, as well as a full programme of Juvenile events. Tailteann Games
Several Galway athletes have attained international status following their selection for Ireland as a result of performances on the Connacht squad at the Interprovincial Schools Tailteann Games (for under 17s) held on Saturday last. From that event an Irish team has been selected to face England, Scotland and Wales in an international competition, which this year will be on September 25th in Derby, England
GCH athletes secured a brilliant gold, a silver, two bronze and an international selection in two events at the interprovincial. Running for Merlin Park College/Connacht, the talented Mathieu Madden took gold in a fast 55.82 seconds over 400m Hurdles, guaranteeing him his first Irish singlet. Madden also cleared 1.90m in the High Jump to add a fantastic silver, and he will also compete at this event in the international.
Ava McKeon for AM Ballinasloe school then added a brilliant bronze in a quality 80m Hurdles, and also brought the Connacht Girls Relay team to a bronze over the 4*300m relay event.
Liam Shaw of Athenry AC won gold in the Discus and silver in the Shot Putt, to secure his place on the Irish squad in both events.
Evan Hallinan of Presentation College Athenry and Craughwell AC topped the leaderboard in the Boys Triple Jump and will now represent Ireland in the international. Lukas Schukat also of Presentation Athenry/Craughwell AC claimed bronze in the High Jump
South Galway AC won silver via Stephen Mannion of Seamount College, who has been selected for Ireland following his second place over 400m. The club also won double bronze via David Mannion of Seamount Kinvara in the 400m Hurdles and Sean Kelleher in the Race Walk event also for Seamount College.

Fixtures- Cross Country
Galway County Board have announced the following fixtures at county and Regional level for the upcoming season.
Sunday 3rd October sees the Galway Senior /Junior/Masters Cross Country championships and the Juvenile Even ages take place at Galway Racecourse in Ballybrit, while Bushfield in Loughrea is the venue on Sunday 10th October for the Galway Intermediate Cross Country and Juvenile Uneven Ages championships
Galway Athletics intend to offer a Primary Schools Cross Country event for those schools and pupils who wish to take part, subject to the Board confirming logistics.
This is an event for 3rd to 6th Class schools around Galway city and county. These are fixed provisionally for 5th October and 12th October, in Renmore .
Connacht Cross Country dates have also been announced – with the first day on 23rd October in Sligo, featuring the Primary Schools Finals and Senior League Day One; Mayo host the programme on the 31st October, which features the Juvenile Even Ages and Junior competitions and the Senior League Day 2. Galway host the Juvenile Uneven Ages and the final Senior League Day. Venues and timetables are to be finalized
