Galway 5K series

Leg 4 of the EY Galway 5km Series was held in Caltra last Tuesday on what is traditionally a very fast course. First over the line was Kyle Moorhead of Craughwell, with Conor Byrne second for GCH and Greg Lundon of South Galway AC third. Jane Ann Healy of Galway City Harriers stormed home to an impressive win in the Ladies section in a fast 17.50 clocking, ahead of Aine O Farrell and Julie Bradshaw in second and third respectively, also for GCH. The remaining two legs of the series are this Tuesday in Athenry and Clarenbridge next week.

National Track and Field League

Galway City Harriers and Galway County fielded teams at the National Track and Field League held at Templemore track in Tipperary last Sunday. GCH Men’s squad competed in the Premier Division and secured fifth spot after Round One of the League, with a Shot Putt victory for Sean Breathnach and second for him in the Weight throw among the highlights, along with other second placings via Thomas McStay over 1500m and Richard Kamson in the Triple Jump.

Galway County Ladies team also competed in the Premier Division under manager Sarah Finnegan and had an incredible day, topping the table with a superb 137 points. The multi-talented squad saw victories from Veronica Burke in the 1500m Walk, Mary Barrett in the Discus, Ava McKeon over 400 Hurdles, Sinead Gaffney over 800m, Sarah Gilhooley in the Steeplechase and the Ladies 4 by 400m Relay squad, along with a host of other good performances by the likes of Kathryn Casserly over 3000m as well as guests Ellen Moran and Aine o Farrell.

Galway County Men’s team were an impressive fourth in Division One, with a squad drawn from a range of clubs including Craughwell, South Galway and Castlegar. The squad had wins via Kyle Moorhead over 800 metres, Evan Hallinan in the High Jump, David Mannion over 400m, Sean Kelleher in the 3k Walk, and a superb team win in the 4 by 400m Relay. Round 2 will be held July 31st next.

Galway County Track and Field championships

The Galway Juvenile Track and Field championships take place this weekend, Saturday and Sunday 28th and 29th May respectively, at the Regional Sports Centre in Dangan. The U13 to U19 events take place on Saturday, with a bumper crowd expected on Sunday for the U9 to U12 competitions. All attending are asked to use the Park and Ride carpark at the Corrib Village entrance

Streets of Galway 8k open

The Galway City Harriers organised and Galway Clinic sponsored Streets of Galway 8km is now open for entries on MyRunResults.com and the race will take place on Saturday 6th August next at 7pm in the city

Ballina Half Marathon

Barbara Dunne of Galway City Harriers was first lady home in the Ballina Half Marathon Saturday last, in fast time of 1hour 24 minutes
