Great Limerick Run

It was a day to remember for the many Galway club athletes who travelled to Limerick on Sunday last, May 1st to compete in the Great Limerick Run series of races. Neasa De Burca and Siobhan Lee of Galway City Harriers ran superb races to take podium spots in the Ladies Marathon for the city club. De Burca clocked 2 hours 58 minutes for second overall, with Lee breaking the magic 3-hour barrier for the first time, with 2 hours 59 minutes, for a well-deserved third place finish, behind winner Olympian Caitriona Jennings. Sergio Ciobanu won the men’s Marathon in 2.21, with some excellent sub 2.50 performances from Sean Burke of Tuam, James Elgar, Ray O Connor and Tony O Connor of GCH and Colm Byrne of East Galway AC. Catherine Thornton now of GCH was third in the Ladies Half Marathon in 1.21, continuing her impressive season

Irish Milers Club

Galway athletes travelled to Dublin to compete at the inaugural Irish Milers Club event of the season on 3th April last and impressed on their track debuts this season. Some highlights included the performance of Alanna Lally who placed second in the Ladies A 800m race in a time of 2.06, ahead of Emma Moore of GCH who clocked a new best of 2.09 in third. Over 5000m, Jamie Fallon of Craughwell went sub 15 minutes, with 14.56, just ahead of David Carter of GCH in 14.58, with Aaron Brennan also of GCH on 15.18. Also impressing was Sean Cotter who ran a club record 3.58.54 for Craughwell just ahead of clubmate Kyle Moorhead in a stacked 1500 metres race.

Galway 5k Series

Greg Lundon (pictured) of South Galway AC won the initial leg of the 2022 EY Galway 5k Series held in Tuam on Thursday last in a fast time of 16.41, ahead of Conor Byrne and Ger Cuddy, both of GCH in second and third respectively. Aine O Farrell of GCH won the Ladies section in 18.50 ahead of clubmate Maebh Brannigan in second. This week’s race is on in Loughrea.

Women's Mini-Marathon

The Mayo.ie Western People Women's Mini-Marathon in Castlebar attracted several hundred participants on Bank Holiday Monday last and Westport native Ellen Moran, running in the colours of Galway City Harriers, emerged as the winner clocking another fast time of 36.57, to take the honours ahead of Sinead Whitelaw and Norah Pieterse.
