Paddy Birch, running in the colours of Ballinasloe and District AC, took the honours in Caltra last Saturday, setting a new course record of 15.42 to win the Caltra and District AC 5k road race by a clear margin. The event incorporated the 2019 County 5K Road Race Championships also.

Second
home was Kevin Glynn of Castlegar AC in 17.31 and third place went to Sean
McDermott, also Castlegar AC in 17.47.

Cross Country fixtures

The Galway Primary Schools Cross
Country championships for 2019 takes place over two consecutive Tuesdays, the 24thSeptember
and 1st October next, in Renmore, Galway City. Entry forms will be issued
to schools early next week, and the Semi finals will take place on day one,
with qualifiers advancing to the finals on the second day.

Castlegar AC will host their annual cross-country
event for Juvenile and Adults ages on Saturday 21st September next.
The adult races will incorporate the Galway Novice Cross Country Championships.

The Galway Cross Country championships
will take place on October 6thand October 20th next, with
the Even Ages and Adult championships on the first day, and the Uneven ages on
day two.

European
Masters Athletics

The European Masters Track and Field
competition takes place in the Venice area of Italy from September
5th to 17th next, with many of Galway’s top veteran
athletes competing including Ian Egan and Mary Barrett
