Galway and Armagh will meet for the fourth time in championship football history in two weeks time after both sides were drawn our first in this morning's All Ireland Senior Football Championship Quarter Final draw. The first meeting of the two counties was in the 2001 championship round 2 qualifiers in Croke Park, when a late Paul Clancy point secured a 0-13 to 0-12 win for John O'Mahony's Galway who would go on to win the All Ireland title. They next met in the 2013 championship qualifiers in Pearse Stadium, when a Danny Cummins goal helped Alan Mulholland's Galway to a 1-11 to 0-9 win before being knocked out by Cork in the next round.
The most recent championship meeting of the two teams was in 2015 when Kevin Walsh was Galway manager and a goal from Damien Comer proved crucial in a 1-12 to 0-12 win in the Armagh Athletic grounds. Galway eventually exited the championship after losing to Donegal in Round 4 of the Qualifiers in Croke Park.
