Anna Foster maintained her two stroke lead on Day Two of the Flogas Irish Women's Amateur Open Championship at Woodbrook Golf Club.
Foster carded a two-under round of 72 to end the day on eight-under and remain two shots clear of her nearest challenger.
“Yeah it was good, definitely I thought it was tougher today, there was a lot more wind kind of in the middle of the round. I was pleased with how I played in the middle and then a bit sloppy towards the end but it was still solid golf.” said the Elm Park golfer.
Foster will be looking for more of the same during tomorrow's final round but is not preoccupying herself with the prospect of winning the championship, instead focusing solely on what's next.
“It’s just another round of golf. I’m just trying to focus on the next shot, I’m not too concerned about the bigger picture, that’ll look after itself.”
On moving day it was Annabel Wilson who brought herself right into contention with a stunning five-under round of 69, claiming the low round of the day and climbing to within two of Foster in solo second. The Castlerock golfer went bogey-free and birdied two of the closing three holes to secure her spot in tomorrow's final group.
"Yeah bogey-free, coming down the last hole I was kind of aware of that. There’s not many rounds you do get around bogey-free so just try to play the hole well and finish strong, and I did. I think just on the way in just something just clicked, all week I’ve kind of been battling with my swing but I felt like, especially the last nine holes I just felt nice and just kind of made the most of that" said the 2021 Curtis Cup player.
Looking ahead, Castlerock's Wilson, who has two wins under her belt in recent weeks, is hopeful that the momentum from those wins paired with her strong finish today can carry through to the final round.
“My strategy is working so far, just taking each shot as it is, I think tomorrow it’s just important that I keep the momentum that I’ve built going. That will serve me well. Like I said, just do a bit of work now, iron it out and build that momentum going into tomorrow” said the Ulster O18 Women's Senior champion.
Emma Fleming (Elm Park) is a shot further back of Wilson on five-under, whilst Isabella Hopkins (Wales) notched up two late birdies to position herself in fourth on four-under. Lahinch's Áine Donegan was a notable mover on the day, rising seventeen places with a four-under round of 70 to sit alongside Hester Sicking (Netherlands) and Lahinch clubmate Aideen Walsh on two-under, in a tie for fifth.
Top 50 plus ties advance to the final round of the Flogas Irish Women's Amateur Open Championship at Woodbrook, which gets underway at 8am on Monday, with the final group of Anna Foster, Annabel Wilson and Emma Fleming teeing off at 10.56am.
