Former Republic of Ireland goalkeeper David Forde has retired from football at the age of 39. The Galway native won 24 caps for the Boys in Green. He made over 300 appearances for Millwall and also lined out for Galway United and Derry City. Most recently Forde was at Cambridge United. David became the oldest player to make his Ireland debut at the age of 33 against Sweden in 2013 and made his last appearance in 2016.
He made his Galway United debut in 1999 and two years later moved to Welsh club Barry Town. His impressive displays earned a move to West Ham in 2002 and, having spent another 3 years back in the league of Ireland with Galway United and Derry City from 2004 to 2006, he signed for Cardiff City in December 2006. Two years later Forde signed for Millwall where he stayed for 8 years.
David announced his decision on Twitter: "The time has come to lay down my gloves for the last time. I have been truly blessed. To receive the honour and privilege to wear the crests and colours of incredible teams. Thank you all so much, go
