Dunedin Connollys vs Annaghdown (All-Ireland Intermediate LGFA Quarter-Final Preview with Niamh Duggan)

Annaghdown's ladies footballers take a step into the unknown this weekend when they travel to Edinburgh's Dunedin Connolly's in Scotland for thier AIB All-Ireland intermediate quarter-final on Saturday (23rd November).

The maroon and white were crowned Connacht champions three weeks ago when they beat Sligo's Drumcliffe Rosses Point (1-10 to 1-5) but had to wait another seven days to find out where they would be heading to.

Dunedin Connolly's overcame Liverpool's John Mitchel's (0-12 to 1-60 in the All-Britain Final to earn the right to host this contest.  And the last time they competed in an All-Ireland quarter-final, they beat Kerry's Na Gaeil a this stage in 2018.

Two years earlier, Annaghdown went all the way to All-Ireland glory and will be rewarded with a home semi-final against Cork's O'Donovan Rossa if they prevail.

Leading up to the game, former player and current Annaghdown selector Niamh Duggan has been chatting to Galway Bay FM's Darren Kelly.

Throw-in at Wardie Playing Ground, Edinburgh on Saturday is 1.30pm.

Saturday November 23:
AIB All-Ireland Intermediate Club Championship quarter-final
Dunedin Connollys (Scotland/Britain) v Annaghdown (Galway); Wardie Playing Fields, Granton Road, Edinburgh, 1.30pm
Annaghdown were All-Ireland Intermediate club champions in 2016 and they have the scent of potential glory in their nostrils once again.
Annaghdown clinched a return to the senior ranks in Galway with a county final victory over Oughterard recently, before going on to land the Connacht title by seeing off the challenge of Sligo’s Drumcliffe-Rosses Point.
Now, Annaghdown are just three games away from matching their exploits of 12 years ago but they first have to negotiate a tricky trip to Edinburgh.
Dunedin Connollys defeated Liverpool opponents John Mitchels to clinch the All-Britain title earlier this month and now have home advantage in All-Ireland quarter-final.
O’Donovan Rossa will be keeping a close eye on this one – as the Cork champions will take on the winners in the semi-final.
