Two injury-time goals from Maurice Nugent and Stephen Walsh gave Galway United a sensational victory in the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division on Friday (17th May 2024).

Rob Slevin’s fifth-minute strike put the Tribesmen ahead but Evan Weir equalised for the hosts on 24 minutes. And when Steve Bawa netted again for Drogheda on 74 minutes, it looked like Galway’s great recent run was coming to an end.

However, just as Galway were going to be pulled back into the relegation battle, Maurice Nugent got the equaliser on 91 minutes before Stephen Walsh hit the winner three minutes later and John Caulfield’s side are now up to fourth place in the table.

Afterwards, Galway United goal scorer Maurice Nugent caught up with Galway Bay FM’s Jonathan Higgins.

Jonathan also got the thoughts of Galway United manager John Caulfield.

Galway Bay FM’s match commentary team were Jonathan Higgins and Joseph Murray.

Galway United’s next game is at home to Dundalk next Friday (24th May).  Kick-off at Eamonn Deacy Park is 7.45pm and we’ll have full coverage on our website galwaybayfm.ie and LIVE coverage on ‘Over The Line’ on Galway Bay FM.

The ‘Over The Line’ weekend preview show with Darren Kelly broadcasts every Friday evening from 7pm on Galway Bay FM.  Next week’s show (24th May) will start at the later time of 8pm due to the Galway Election Debates on Galway Bay FM.
