There were celebrations on the double for Galway Handballers Emma Kinnane and Niamh Heffernan on Sunday as both landed All Ireland titles in Kingscourt, Co Cavan. Abbeyknockmoy girl Emma Kinane was crowned National Champion in the 13 and under age grade in a tense, hard fought final. Emma is a member of the Abbeyknockmoy Handball Club and is no stranger to winning titles. Her previous title successes include County and Provincial Championships at U11, U12, U13 and Under 14. Earlier this year she was narrowly beaten in the All-Ireland Semi-Final at U14. She still qualifies for this competition next year .She has also been victorious in the Liam Bourke Memorial held in Mayo and at the Queen of the Gym in Limerick.
Niamh Heffernan from Claregalway was victorious in the All Ireland U17 competition after a 15-12 15-10 win over Leah Doyle and will now be part of Team Ireland in the upcoming World Championships.It has been a stellar 3 years for Niamh since she landed 4 World titles in 2015 as a 13 year old prodigy and followed that up with All Ireland success at U15 level last year.
