Damien Creavin from Ballybrit, who fights out of the Galway Black Dragon Kickboxing Gym under the watchful eye of 8th Dan Black Pete Foley, became the new IKF All Ireland Lightweight K-1 Champion on Saturday night with a unanimous decision victory over five gruelling rounds to defeat local hero Eddie Mc Cormack from Na Fianna Gym in Athlone.
Both men headlined the exciting event in the fabulous Raddisson Blu Hotel in Athlone that saw kickboxers from all over Ireland and two fighters from Belgium take part.
Damien put in a solid performance from the off to impress the three neutral judges and referee from Wicklow, Meath, Waterford and Clare and the event was also streamed out live on the Internet.
Damien is the first champion to come out of the all new Black Dragon Kickboxing Gym on the Sean Mulvoy road but certainly won't be the last vows his proud coach Pete Foley.
His team mate Ben Devlin lost a close decision in his bid to win the IKF -50.09kg K-1 crown and Cian Mc Cormack scored a draw and James Kelly a win respectively in their International K-1 fights against two tough fighters from Belgium.
