Two provincial club finals involving Galway teams take place this weekend (Saturday/Sunday 1st/2nd March 2025).
On Saturday, it's an all-Galway affair as Mervue United and Athenry face off in the latest instalment of their rivalry in the Connacht under-17 Girls Cup Final. The sides met in last year's All-Ireland under-16 decider which Athenry won 3-2. But when they met in the league back in September, Mervue United prevailed by the same score.
Mervue United manager Eimear Whelan chatted to Galway Bay FM's Darren Kelly.
On Sunday, Athenry will chase what they hope will be a provincial double when they battle Boyle Celtic in the Connacht under-19 Girls Cup Final. The Brian Sweeney managed side beat Swinford 5-0 in their semi-final thanks to goals from Lily May Feeney, Ella Farrelly, Isobel Nyhan and two for Anna Jordan.
Mike Noone is the Athenry under-19 coach, and manager of the under-17s. He looked ahead to both games with Darren.
