Galway Bay FM understands that if Connacht beat Racing 92 on Saturday night in the European Challenge Cup quarter final, they are actively considering moving the Semi Final to a venue away from Dexcom Stadium.
The ground is still under construction and is restricted to a capacity of just over 6,000 with additional terracing.
The potential semi-final, which is due to be played on the first weekend in May, means Castlebar, which recently hosted Munster in a 27,000 sell-out, is not available due to a potential hosting of the Connacht Championship Final.
It is understood that one potential venue being looked at is Pearse Stadium in Galway.
The move would require approval from the GAA's Central Council.
Connacht will play Racing 92 in the Quarter Final this Saturday evening at Dexcom Stadium with kick off at 8pm.
