One year after dropping from the senior ranks, St. Michael's are just 60 minutes away from a return as they prepare to clash with Caltra on Saturday (2nd November 2024) in the Peter Curran Electrical Intermediate Football Final.
The city side have won the intermediate championship on two previous occasions - against Maigh Cuilinn (1985) and Glenamaddy (2008).
Mike Hughes' team got off to a bad start going down to Oranmore/Maree (2-16 to 0-19) but regrouped with victories over Menlough (0-11 to 0-6) and Glenamaddy (1-14 to 0-8).
In the preliminary quarter-final, they edged past Cortoon Shamrocks (0-8 to 0-5) before upping the tempo in the quarter-final against St. Gabriel's (3-15 to 0-5). And they maintained that form in avenging Oranmore/Maree (0-19 to 0-7) in the semi-final.
Leading up to the game, St. Michael's selector John Ruane has been chatting to Galway Bay FM's Jonathan Higgins.
