Black Dragon Kickboxing Club Hosts "Clash At Clonboo - The Next Generation"

On Sunday, January 19th, the Inaugural juniors-only K-1/Kickboxing event took place in the Iconic Regans Lounge Bar in Clonboo.

Some 38 young warriors from age 6 to age 17 years and fighting out of clubs from Cavan, Limerick, Ballinasloe, Templemore, Mayo, Stradbally, Shannon and of course, Galway Black Dragon, locked horns in a total of 19 fights.

The ballroom, synonymous with dancing down the decades, instead housed a boxing ring for the afternoon and the place was rocking to its core.

Not a single seat was left in the house, and the sporting audience had a warm welcome for every fighter.

Galway Black Dragon Gym had 14 fighters in action and came away with seven victories (including two promotional titles), four draws, and just three defeats.

Twelve years old Itza Daril from Moycullen defeated Mollie O’Riordan from Limerick Hub in the first title fight by unanimous decision in a fantastic contest that went the full three rounds but hats off to the young Limerick Lady as she made Itza work very hard for the win in what was a blistering pace.

Colm Perry from Castlepark defeated Anthony Conway in the second title fight in another amazing contest that once again went the distance, and this one also had the crowd on their feet throughout.

Colm proved that he could fight on the outside with some technical boxing & fast snappy kicks but also in the clinch where he landed some excellent knee strikes.

The show, aptly named “The Clash At Clonboo—The Next Generation,” was the very first event of its kind in Ireland. It focused on junior fighters only in a theatre-style setting with an MC, DJ, flashing lights, etc.

Black Dragon Kickboxing Gym would like to thank Owners Miko and Eileen Regan and new proprietor Councillor James Charity for the use of their fabulous premises and also to main sponsor Tony Kelly from TK Car Sales on the Headford Road.

A special thanks also to everyone who helped in any way to make the event the tremendous success that it was.
