Presentation College, Athenry 2-1 Scoil Mhuire Greenhill, Carrick on Suir
PRESENTATION COLLEGE, ATHENRY survived a scare from Munster newbies Scoil Mhuire Greenhill, Carrick on Suir at Fairview Rangers AFC, Limerick yesterday afternoon.
Carrick’s Ruby Norris and Athenry’s Amira Bouhlel McNamara both had great chances at either end of the park to break the deadlock but those valuable opportunities were scorned midway through the opening half.
However, Presentation College took the lead just before the interval as Under 15 Schools’ International Abbie DUFFY opened the scholars account following an excellent through ball from Anna Jordan as they went in one up at the break.
Scoil Mhuire netminder Saoirse O’Callaghan pulled off an exceptional save to deny Amira Bouhlel NcNamara within minutes of the restart.
Eibhlín Power’s side equalised seven minutes in with Clodagh POWER hitting a peach following a Ruby Norris corner.
Carrick were on the front foot as Jane Brennan denied a pile driver from Norris at the edge of the box with 47 minutes played.
Both teams hit the woodwork, Athenry’s Molly Noone rattling the post on 53 minutes while Jodie Roche smashed the crossbar moments later.
Athenry took the lead six minutes from time when Anna JORDAN sprung up at the far post as Abbie Duffy turned supplier this time around.
Scoil Mhuire could have grabbed an equaliser late on but Jodie Roche’s effort just sailed wide of the post.
Presentation College, Athenry will await the winners of the other semi-final which sees Carndonagh Community School entertain Presentation Secondary School, Kilkenny in Oriel Park, Dundalk this Thursday, March 6 (1.0) with the FAI Schools Junior Girls National Cup Final scheduled for Wednesday, March 19 (1.0).
