Athenry secured a first county senior hurling title in 20 years on Saturday (19th October 2024) when they beat Portumna in the Senior B decider in Duggan Park, Ballinasloe.
The victors led from the 14th minute but had to hold off three Portumna goals to become just the second winners of the Daniel Reeves Trophy in this competition.
Joe Canning netted a penalty and 20 metre free for the Portumna while Declan McLaughlin also found the net. Top scorer Cian Burke got Athenry's crucial goal 20 minutes from time.
