Some moments transcend sport, and Thursday night last at EDP was one of them. A truly historic and deeply emotional evening for the Galway Football community.
In a moving ceremony held in the newly refurbished EDP meeting room, GFA Chairman Kevin O’Neill announced that six local leagues would be renamed in honour of six legendary figures whose impact on Galway Football has been immeasurable.
Surrounded by family, friends, and fellow club members, the night was filled with heartfelt stories, joyful memories, and poignant reflections, bringing both laughter and tears to all in attendance.
Special thanks to Geraldine Tracey, Sean McGlynn, Tom Reddington, and John Clery for speaking so beautifully and powerfully about the lives and legacies of these remarkable individuals.
A heartfelt thank you to Terry Lee, whose efforts made this unforgettable evening possible.
The six individuals honoured:
Art Friel
Michael Geary
Billy Carr
Pat McCann
Martin Horgan
Patsy O’Connor
This was more than a ceremony—it was a celebration of legacy, passion, and unwavering dedication. A night that will live long in the hearts of the Galway Football family.
