The IRFU and Connacht have confirmed that Bundee Aki has signed a one-year extension to his central contract which will keep him at the Sportsground until the end of June 2026. The announcement allays any fears Connacht fans had after reports in October that French side Toulon had targeted Aki for a move next summer.
Meanwhile, ahead of Connacht’s next game in the United Rugby Championship on Saturday in the Aviva against Leinster, Josh Ioane and Piers O’Connor have returned to training and are available for selection. Andrew Smith(thumb) will undergo surgery tomorrow for an injury sustained in the Perpignan win, and will then undergo rehab of 6-8 weeks. Seán O'Brien(thigh) will undergo an MRI today to assess an injury picked up in the same game. Following a specialist review last week, Shayne Bolton (foot) is targeting a return to selection availability by the end of January.
