Irish Schools Cross Country Championships
The 123.ie All Ireland Schools Cross Country Championships 2025 (Hosted by Castlegar AC & Connacht Schools) will take place in Ballybrit Racecourse, Galway, on Saturday, March 8th, 2025, from 12 Noon, with thousands expected to attend the venue. The event timetable is as follows: Minor Girls 2,000m Race 12 Noon: Minor Boys 2,500m Race 12:15 pm; Junior Girls 2,500m Race 12:30 pm; Junior Boys 3,500m Race 12:50 pm; Intermediate Girls 3,500m Race 1:2pm; Intermediate Boys 5,000m Race 1.50 pm; Senior Girls 3,500m Race 2:15 pm; Senior Boys 6,000m Race 2:35 pm. The event is a SIAB International Cross Country qualifier. The selection criteria are that the first 10 athletes across the line at the All-Ireland Schools Cross Country in that current year who are within the correct SIAB Age Category at Junior & Intermediate Age Categories only will be selected.
National Masters Indoors
The National Masters Indoor Track and Field Championship take place this weekend in Athlone on Saturday, March 8th. A full schedule of events is on the programme, with age categories from V35 right up to V85 on the cards
Standard for Moore
Emma Moore (pictured) of GCH set a European B 800m standard as she chases European U23 qualification for this year’s championships. At the Track & Field Live meet in Dublin last Wednesday Moore followed up her amazing National silver with a superb clocking of 2:04.58 run in the 800m.
Clarenbridge 5km.
Scoil Mhuire Clarenbridge hosted a 5k last Sunday around the scenic Kilcornan circuit, with Evan O Rourke of Maree AC setting a hot pace, winning easily in a fast 15.51, with Lorcan Doyle second and Gerry Carty third. The winner of the Ladies' race was Cliodhna Ruane of Corrib AC in 20.10 after a great battle with Anne Earls of Maree AC, with only one second in it. Roisin Duffy placed third
Kinvara Races
The Kinvara series of 10k, Half Marathon and Marathon were held last weekend in the village, with over 1,500 finishers across the three races. The first home in the 10k was Andrea Lundegard in 32.14, with first lady Aoife Kilgallon of Sligo AC in 35.17. The first man home in the Half marathon was Barry Hartnett of Dundrum AC in 1 hr 12 mins, with Neasa De Burca of GCH first lady, in 1hr 23 mins. The winner of the three-quarter marathon race was Tadhg O Sullivan in 1 hr 53 mins, with Sarah Flanagan first lady in 2hrs 22 mins.
Galway 5k Series
This year’s EY sponsored Galway 5km series will open for entry on March 13th, on Eventmaster. The first leg of the series will be hosted by Craughwell AC. This race will be a huge milestone for the Series, as it marks the 100th race since the event started 19 years ago. This year’s race locations and times are as follows:

Abbeyknockmoy - May 6th (East Galway AC) 8 pm
Loughrea - May 13th 8 pm
Maree - May 20th 8 pm
