The national league has not seen a Maigh Cuilinn-Titans Derby since the 2014/15 season - the excitement is palpable and apparent in both camps ahead of Saturday evening's game in the Kingfisher at 7.30 pm. Ben Kelly sat down with both Titans and Maigh Cuilinn representatives. Maigh Cuilinn head coach, Paul O'Brien and player Donogh McDonogh, alongside Titans players Matthew Sweeney and Ben Powell, they talked about what to expect on Saturday...
Maigh Cuilinn are coming off the back of a dominant display in Sportlann Leitir Mór where they got 11 men on the scoresheet in a 14-point victory over Killarney Cougars. That same weekend Titans played the other Killarney team, Scotts Lakers, where a titanic 44-point and 13-rebound performance from American Michael Hayes allowed Titans to see out a 9-point victory despite a late push from the Kerry side.
Titans are one of four undefeated teams entering the weekend, while Maigh Cuilinn's only loss came to table toppers Limerick Celtics.
This clash will mark the first of a double header weekend for both teams, who will play again on the bank holiday Monday following what is set to be a gruelling affair on Saturday.
