Galway Cross Country Championships
The final day of Galway Cross Country action took place last week, with The Galway Novice and Juvenile Uneven championships held in Tuam at the Palace Grounds on Sunday last.
Frank King of Castlegar made a winning return to action claiming the Galway title, while Edel Kelly of GCH took the Ladies Novice crown.
At Juvenile level, U9 winners were Katie Considine of Craughwell and Ben O Connor of South Galway, while at U11 Ruby Coyne took gold for Castlegar in the Girls race and Ryan Byrne for East Galway won the Boys. At U13 level the victors were Elise Day of CRH and Harry Melia of Athenry AC. In the U15s the winners were Elly Turner of Castlegar AC and David Frazer of Craughwell AC. In the older ages, Claudia Coyle of South Galway impressed again winning the U17 Girls, as did Luke Walsh, her clubmate in the Boys. At U19 level Luke O Sullivan dominated Craughwell and took gold.
Connacht Primary Schools Cross Country
Last weekend, the Connacht Primary School finals took place - they were held in Mohill on Saturday, 12th October at 11 am.
In the top three on the day were Caitlin Mulkerrins, who finished in third place in the 3rd/4th Class Girls for Peterswell NS, just ahead of Ruby Coyne, Brierhill in 6th, with Ryan Byrne a superb second in the 3rd and 4th Boys race for Monivea. Best for Galway in the 5th and 6th Class races were Layla Faraja of Scoil Caitriona in the 5th and 6th Girls races, and Darcy Noel of Galway Educate Together in the Boys 5th and 6th class event
In the Team event, Lisheenkyle NS won silver in the 3rd /4th Class Boys event, led home by Shane Higgins in 6th in that race, along with Eoghan Shyrne, Cian Casserly and Alex Cantry.
