Connacht Juvenile Cross Country Championships
The last of three days of the Connacht Cross Country Championships took place last Sunday on a fast course at Roscommon Racecourse, with the holding of the Juvenile Uneven Ages and Adult Senior League events. Galway athletes had much success and were off to a flyer with a team win for South Galway AC in the U11 Girls race, with individual success for Eliana Magnetti of GCH second and Caitlin Mulkerrins of South Galway AC third home.
Castlegar AC Boys team excelled winning team gold at U11 level, led home by Ciaran Casey. Ryan Byrne of East Galway AC won individual bronze. At U-13 level, the Girl's team from Clare River Harriers had a great run to take team gold in a competitive field, with star performer Elise Day in third claiming bronze.
In the U15s, Castlegar AC girls continued their good form winning team bronze, led home by Siun Ni Chonaill. In the U15 Boys race, Alan Hallinan and David Frazer made it a one-two for Craughwell AC with great efforts, while Clare River Harriers claimed team silver, with Patrick Lee best in fourth place.
Galway City Harriers up and coming U17 Girls team excelled, winning team gold with Jennifer McCarthy and Keilah Murray leading the squad home. Individually, Niamh McWalter of Tuam AC won a superb silver, with Claudia Coyle of South Galway AC winning bronze. GCH U17 Boys also won gold, with Oisin Maher best in 5th spot for the city club. Ciaran Considine and Luke Walsh won silver and bronze respectively for South Galway AC
At Senior level, Abaas Edris of Castlegar AC (pictured) continued his good run of form claiming Connacht gold and the League title, with Aaron Brennan of GCH second and Castlegar’s new find, Aimad Belayd in third . Mari Johnson of Sligo won the Ladies race, with Triona Moran of Castlegar best Galway athlete once again.
Qualifiers from this event go forward to the National Cross Country Uneven Ages in Tramore on December 1st, with the Even Ages and National Seniors on in Enniskillen on November 17th next.
