Galway Bay fm newsroom - There was disappointment for activists in the city this afternoon as a public demonstration to celebrate the European Union attracted a very low turnout.
Organisers billed the event as taking inspiration from the 'Pulse of Europe' citizens movement in Germany, which promotes the stability, rights and values offered by the EU.
They argue there is a need to stand against rising populism in Europe and anti-European ideas that have led to Brexit.
However, there was a very low turnout at this afternoon's event with just half a dozen people assembling at an improvised stand at Eyre Square.
Activist Leonie Ester says the numbers are disappointing but it won't stop them from holding another event next weekend.
