There's a call for Galway County Council to reform the "shocking" system of social housing allocation, known as Choice Based Letting.

The CBL system offers applicants an opportunity to apply for social housing in their preferred area.

And at a meeting at County Hall this week, Gort/Kinvara councillor Geraldine Donohue said one of her constituents was allocated a property four months ago.

But she claimed that same woman is still couch-surfing with her two kids - and is still being told the house isn’t ready to occupy.

Independent Councillor Donohue says it's shocking carry on considering the County Council is the landlord in this case.
