This year, the Revive Active Women’s Four-Ball competition was played over four regional finals, with the Connacht final decided last Sunday and Gort Golf Club walking away as champions.
While the previous three finals had all been decided on one day of play at a neutral venue, the Connacht Final would go down for decision over two legs played at the respective finalist’s home course, with County Sligo facing Gort Golf Club.
The Rosses Point links would play host to the first leg of action on October 6th, with both teams not wanting to give an inch before the return tie. At the end of play in Sligo, the final would be finely balanced at 2-2.
Jane Joyce, Louise Butler, Hannah McInerney and Ann Connolly secured two points for Gort before Deirdre McGettrick, Ailbhe O'Donovan, Mary Conefrey and Joan Harte levelled proceedings for County Sligo, leaving it all to play for in the return leg the following weekend.
Moving from The Wild Atlantic Links to the tree-lined fairways of Gort provided a different set of challenges for the finalists. While nothing could separate the sides following the first leg, on this occasion Gort used their home comforts advantage to produce a clean sweep of victories to claim the Connacht pennant. Petra O'Connor, Sara Broderick, Hannah McInerney, Ann Connolly, Joan Fogarty, Geraldine Connors, Jane Joyce and Louise Butler combined to win 4-0 on the day for a 6-2 overall victory.
